Consilium from within, Ivar Milligan
Consilium is a sum of its people. The success of these people is seen through achievements for our clients and the happiness and satisfaction of our team. This may seem trite, but it most certainly isn’t and the attention that is given to supporting this is second to none. This short piece provides a glimpse of what makes us who we are and the potential that we hold.
Financial PR is an evolving industry. Our tools, timelines and expectations have changed and the acceleration of this through COVID has made today’s office different, and in many ways, better, to that from before. What hasn’t changed is our culture and this is critical. Earlier this summer we spent some time as a company working with our values to identify and challenge what really matters to us and what we believe makes us succeed in and enjoy our work. A lifetime ago I started my career in the Army, learning and appreciating, amongst other things, the purpose of values and standards and so it’s been of great satisfaction to me to see this being applied. We use these values to guide us on our recruitment and how we assess our performance. We also use them to guide us on the work that we deliver for our clients and the manner in which we do so; the Consilium service.
Other changes have been to our ways of working. We encourage our team to be in the office at least three days a week and support the flexibility to make this work both for individuals and their teams. The focus on creating time for innovation and collaboration has drawn people back into the office more frequently and has created and strengthened our relationships in a growing team. In the introductory calls I have with prospective employees I describe this relationship using two of our values: full of life and caring. Whilst we look out for each other we are also strengthened by humour and, fundamentally, the want to sit and work with each other. Some four years ago a couple of us were tempted away by the lure of new sectors and it’s telling that we both came back two years later to rejoin a culture and family with so much to offer.
We continue to grow, both in capability and scale, and do this by finding the best people to join us at every level and by using our team to help us meet candidates for a full breadth of answers as much as questions and helping to inform the chemistry for both parties. The value in this is demonstrated in new joiners’ first days and weeks by the care and involvement of the whole team in their welcome and the success it promotes.
So, this is your team at Consilium: a driven group of collaborative individuals, celebrating and making use of different mindsets, experiences and skills, demonstrating excellence and connectivity throughout the sector with an energetic and caring approach to delivering excellence and supporting each other. Our tenth anniversary is just around the corner so here’s to the next ten!
